Description
GENERAL PURPOSE:The Recreation Superintendent performs responsible
work supervising the operations of the assigned recreation facility
and other related work for a specific division as required for the
City's Parks and Recreation Department. This position includes
planning, organizing, and directing the operating and marketing
activities of the assigned facility, training of subordinates, and
oversight of administrative functions. This work is performed under
general supervision - the incumbent normally receives little
instruction on routine work and general instruction on new projects
and assignments; work is reviewed periodically with primary
feedback given with final results. Work is reviewed through
observation, reports, and results achieved.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:NOTE: The omission of an essential function

exceptional customer service by consistently setting high standards
and maintaining overall responsibility for venue, events, and
programs. Market and promote the facility, and maintain and manage
social media presence. Plan and execute community events, programs,
venue rentals, and other related activities.Set sales targets,
actively seek marketing opportunities, and proactively sell the
venue/facility/programs to new residents and clients to promote
growth and increase revenues.Ensure long and short-term goals are
set and achieved for revenues, expenditures, customer satisfaction
and merchandising, seek productivity and cost savings
opportunities, and monitor sales trends.Manage and train
recreational facility staff, contractors and other service
providers, and ensure all staff receive adequate training,
materials, supplies and equipment to successfully perform job
duties, and ensure all applicable state and federal laws and City
policies and procedures are followed.Oversee administrative
functions including, but not limited to, scheduling, payroll, and
performance evaluations. Oversee and assist in day to day cash
management processes including, but not limited to, processing and
tracking payments for venue rentals and program registration, cash
management practices, balancing cash register and cash receipts,
and making daily bank deposits.Perform related management and
analysis of information including administration of the contracts,
analysis of sales activity, budget management, client contracts,
invoices and related paperwork, and maintaining an up to date
client and preferred vendor database.Work cooperatively with other
City departments to schedule activities in coordination with other
City events and activities to maximize use of the venue and
surrounding City facilities.Perform other work as
assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Working knowledge of
departmental and municipal rules, regulations, policies, and
procedures.Working knowledge of the best practice for event and
venue management. Working knowledge of merchandising practices,
visual display, inventory control, and organization of
storage.Working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules,
and practices and the ability to transmit such knowledge to
subordinates.Working knowledge of basic accounting principles for
retail applications.Skill in compiling data and in preparing
comprehensive and coherent reports, correspondence, graphs, charts,
presentations, and spreadsheets.Skill in conducting and analyzing
research, critical thinking and problem solving.Skill in the use of
modern office technology and the ability to adapt to implementation
of technology updates and improvements.Skill in multitasking,
establishing work priority independently, and working with shifting
priorities and deadlines.Skill in general management and team
development.Ability to provide exceptional customer service and
resolve customer inquiries and complaintsAbility to manage cash,
balance cash, check and credit card receipts to register receipts,
and make daily deposit.Ability to make critical and difficult
decisions with some direction that conform to the policies and
procedures of the City and the Department.Ability to establish and
maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city
officials, and the general public.Ability to communicate
information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in
writing with all staff, city officials, and the general
public.Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter
Park Core Competencies.Ability to understand and follow oral and
written instructions and keep accurate records.This position is
performed with working knowledge - the incumbent has ability to
recall and apply important and commonly-used information from
relevant source documents or information in a particular subject
field.
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in Sports Management,
Recreation, or related field, supplemented by a minimum of five
years of supervisory or management experience in the public or
private sector.An equivalent combination of education, training and
experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and
abilities and other competencies required for the position may be
considered. CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Possess
and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License, Class E or
higher.AquaticsMust maintain the following certifications:
Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid, and
Bloodborne Pathogens, First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor, Lifeguarding
Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, Water Safety Instructor
Trainer, Certified Pool/Spa Operator, and First Aid/CPR/AED
Instructor through the American Heart Association.Tennis Center
Must have at least five years of experience working at a Tennis
Facility or Center.Note: All certifications must be current at the
time of application and must be maintained as a condition of
continued employment.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:PhysicalThis is light work requiring the
exertion of 0 - 20 pounds of force occasionally and 0 - 10 pounds
of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition
objects.Ability to traverse about an ADA accessible office setting,
with or without reasonable accommodation.Ability to remain
stationary at a keyboard for extended periods of time and
continuously operate a computer and other office productivity
machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.Ability
to manipulate objects and demonstrate small, precise movements
repetitively.EnvironmentalTasks may require frequent exposure to
adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun,
extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, loud noises, and
hazardous chemicals, etc. SensoryTasks require the manipulation of
objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability
to detect and distinguish various features of one's surroundings,
and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information
